El Centro Restaurant, Kota Kinabalu

Located just a street away from Hyatt Regency is a relaxing and hip fusion restaurant El Centro.

The food was not expensive and tasted good. I had some grilled chicken skewers which were nicely marinated. It came with some yummy salad and a generous portion of mash. Drinks were not expensive as well.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant. The decor of the restaurant sort of exudes a sense of free-spiritedness. It is possibly the effect of a series of National Geographic-type pictures which ran along an entire wall. The music was good and the staff members were friendly. People were mingling at the bar while we were sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant enjoying our time, away from the pouring rain.

Loving Gyu Don at Bonzai Nottingham

As we are pretty much done now, JZR and I have found ourselves rather addicted to Bonzai, a fusion restaurant serving Japanese and South East Asian food. I am addicted to their spicy Korean beef dish. It is all very confusing as on one page they named it the Korean beef dish and on another, it was called the Spicy Gyu Bento. Both beef rice dishes tasted exactly the same to me! Anyway, I found that I have more space for some salmon sashimi, which is a must-have, if I order the bento as the rice portion is smaller. In addition, I get to taste the Agedashi tofu which I really like! *foodie mood*

Saturday lunches at Belle & Jerome

We have been frequenting Belle & Jerome for our Saturday lunch lately. The panini was good. But the jacket potato was not baked thoroughly. So, it was just cooked and not as fluffy as I had expected. Otherwise, it would have been more delicious as the topping was nice. The jacket potatoes from the stall at Beeston Square are nicer as they much softer and fluffier.

Lunch at Belle & Jerome

ACW and I went to Belle and Jerome today for lunch. I have always enjoyed their Egg Benedict which they used bagel and wonderful Wiltshire ham.  Nice hollandaise sauce. The yolk of the egg, just cooked, so soft and nice. Yum.

Dim Sum at University of Nottingham

I get excited whenever my colleague J suggests dim sum for lunch. Yum!

What is amazing about the University of Nottingham is the diversity of cuisine at the various in-campus eating outlets particularly Portland Building at University Campus. Without surprise, this is largely due to the many international students that study here.

When I was first brought here by a colleague, I was so impressed to find a dim sum place at the centre of a British university. On the other side of the food court, you find Jamaican food as well others!

Thanks to Man's Gourmet at Portland Building, whenever I crave for something from home like dim sum and Malaysian curry, it is only a short bus-ride away. While the dim sum at Mandarin Restaurant (at city centre) is still the best I have ever tasted in UK, the  Man's Gourmet is a short distance to my office.

Canada Trip Day 25: Fort Edmonton Park

7 July 2010 - This travel post is taking me almost two years to finish! Anyway, things got a little hectic during our last few days in Canada because of the way we had arranged our trips. Having left Alberta and back in British Columbia, we flew back to Alberta where Edmonton is. Mum has a friend who lives in Edmonton and she has very much been excited our Canada trip and had so warmly invited us for a visit. My aunt was nice to wake up early in the morning to drive us to the airport for our Edmonton flight. In a way, I was happy we got to fly in, having the view of the Rockies during the flight was such a privilege. As we soon came out of the arrival hall, we saw the happy face of mum's friend. Soon, we were happily catching up in the car. With us being chauffeured by mum's friend during our two-day stay, we somewhat caught a glimpse of Edmonton. The city seemed less busy, in comparison with Vancouver and Toronto. As time was short, my mum's friend and her husband had planned to bring us to the Fort Edmonton Park for a visit and then a nice, big Chinese dinner somewhere in Chinatown.

Seeing a beaver was the main highlight of the Fort Edmonton Park visit. We were walking to the fort along a dirt footpath where we came upon a bridge. As we were crossing, I had noticed movements in the water, which came to be a beaver. I was so excited and alerted both my mum and sister. All three of us were so enthralled by this elusive animal.

The Fort Edmonton Park is a huge historical playground. I call it a playground because they have made learning about the history of Edmonton as fun as possible. I enjoyed looking at the old machines at the bank and the post office. I love horses, so the sight of them grazing by the stables, pulling carriages and so forth was exciting. I particularly liked the visit to the replica of the 1846 Hudson's Bay Fort. It was impressive how they build high walls and towers, all completely out of wood. It felt like I was in a scene of some very old war movie. The walk in woods was relaxing. I was glad there always nature nearby anywhere in Canada.
