The Process of Publishing a Comic Strip, Singapore Philatelic Museum

At the Philatelic Museum, there was a room dedicated to comics. And, just along the corridor, a little section exhibited the process of publishing a comic strip. And, it goes...

The script is first written up.

Breakdowns/thumbnails: Next scenes are drawn up. Each scene is called a panel and they are rough sketches of how the drawing goes with the script.


Breakdowns/thumbnails 2: Sometimes, the scene/panel may be replaced.


Pencilling adds lines and fills to different areas of the drawing to show textures, shadow or reflection. The 'x's represent solid fills and is used to save time.


Inking completes the pencilling process. 'X' marked areas are filled in, background is added wherever deem fit.


Colour guides, colours are filled in.


To enhance the colours, digital colouring followed next.


Lettering: The dialogue of each panel is filled in.


Before sending off to print, the document is converted to a PDF file with high resolution for good printing quality. This is called pre-press preparation.

Clarke Quay, Singapore

It was an early Sunday morning when bigR took me for a walk to Clarke Quay. The night scene from last night's walk had been the complete opposite of the serenity that is before me. The night life in Clarke Quay is busily thriving. At night, interesting contemporary art of all sorts can be seen from the different themes of each restaurant, bar and club. This is the Singapore's equivalent of Irish Temple Bar!

There was even a bar called The Clinic Bar which literally goes by that theme! Cosy hospital beds and wheel chairs replace the conventional couches. And, you drink from a IV drip bag!

On my last night, we went to Ben & Jerry's at Dempsey after dinner! I couldn't be happier! Me love the one with the cookie dough!

Ping Yi Secondary School Orientation Day, Singapore

Yes, I am still on posts about my January trip to Singapore! And, I've got a few more to go! BigR had work to do that day, so I decided to follow him to check out how orientation day is for a Singaporean high school.

The event started with introductory session on the education system in Singapore, the LEAPS system with an objective to develop students to become responsible, well-rounded and dynamic. The approach is to develop students in the areas of academics, co-curricular activities and character-development programme. During intervals, there were performances conducted by the students.

Outside the auditorium in the school compounds, members of different CCA were busying away with preparations. Here are some of the clubs, societies and activities in Ping Yi Secondary School.

A comic strip by a Singaporean

At the Philatelic Museum of Singapore, there were some exhibits of comic strips by some of the local artists in Singapore. I found myself laughing out loud as I was reading this one.
